3 Day Aircrete Dome building Workshop

Come and join the Aircrete Domes Australia team this November for a 3 day workshop in beautiful Bilambil Heights in the Northern Rivers hinterland and learn all the skills you need to build your own Aircrete dome storage/housing/structure. The passive housing model which is fireproof, water proof, vermin proof, cyclone resistant, energy efficient and self sustaining, and you can build it yourself!

Workshop Locations

DAY 1 – Saturday 19th November  

Aircrete Domes Australia headquarters site

The first day of the workshop will be held at the home of Aircrete Domes Australia at Ferny Glen, Canungra, QLD where you will be able to experience the unique space of our domes. We currently have 4 domes at various stages of construction including one fully completed, so you can see the process 1st hand.

DAY 2 & 3 – Sunday 20th & Monday 21st November

The dome building site – Ella’s Farm – Bilambil Heights

We will be commencing construction of a 6mt dome at Ella’s Farm.

Ella’s Farm  – Come and experience the beauty of Ella’s Farm atop Bilambil Heights in the Northern Rivers hinterland. Ella’s 20 acre property, which she purchased only 6 years ago, is testament to her passion for sustainable and regenerative farming, not to mention her work ethic, drive and commitment. With a mix of permaculture design, syntropic agroforestry and aquaponics, Ella’s farm is a wonderful teaching ground for people wanting to learn to grow their own nutritious food and to care for the land and our environment. 

Permaculture Design Course – commencing 29th October

Ella is running a 7 week PDC course beginning on the 29th October including the weekend we will be there building the dome. What a great opportunity to combine both skill sets and set yourself up for self-sufficiency and building your own affordable home. DOME Workshop Schedule

Saturday November 19th

LOCATION – Aircrete Domes Australia headquarters

Ferny Glen, Cunugra, QLD

8.30am (QLD time) registration  – 3.30pm (QLD time)

BYO LUNCH – morning and afternoon tea will be provided

3.30pm – Travel to Ella’s Farm (1 hour 15min)

LOCATION – 217 McAllisters Rd, Bilambil Heights NSW  

Sunday November 20th & Monday 21st

8.00 pm – 4.00 pm (NSW time)

Both days at Ella’s farm.

What you will learn at the workshop

  • Make forms with timber and fixtures to contain the Aircrete and form the building Blocks
  • Make a perfect Aircrete mix using a foaming machine, air compressor and mixing tools.
  • Learn the techniques to create, cut and stack the blocks used for building.
  • Construct an arch support structure used for doorways.
  • Learn how to make and use a compass arm correctly to ensure a perfect dome shape.
  • Learn the exact recipes for successful blocks, mortar and finishes for the dome.
  • Learn the all-important materials and techniques for applying the reinforcing mesh which
  • ensures the overall strength of the finished product.
  • Learn several techniques to fit out the dome with windows and doors.
  • Apply external and internal wall finishes ensuring a waterproof dome.
  • Learn about the best products to use for the Australian climate and the availability of those here in Australia.
  • Discover techniques for adding and installing features like glass tiles to the walls of your dome.
  • Work with a team and have FUN

PLEASE NOTE: We will endeavor to demonstrate or at least discuss all of the above-mentioned skills

required to build an AirCrete dome however, due to the fact that the workshop is only 3 days in duration,

some skills may not be able to be fully demonstrated during that time.

TUITION RATES

$500 per student

Morning and afternoon tea is included in the workshop fees.

Please note that accommodation and meals are not included in the tuition fees.

ACCOMMODATION

Limited studio accommodation is available onsite at Ella’s farm. Please email Ella below for further information.

Limited camping is available onsite for swags, tents and small RV’s or campervans. The cost for camping and use of facilities is $20 per person per night.

MEALS

A meal package is available for the duration of the workshop which includes 1/ dinner on Saturday, 2/ breakfast, 3/ lunch & 4/ dinner on Sunday, and 5/ breakfast and 6/ lunch on Monday at a cost of $120 per person. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options available. Please contact Ella to book and pay for your accommodation and communicate any dietary preferences.

About your host – Ella Forsyth Ella has a Bachelor of teaching, Bachelor of Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Naturopathy. Ella grew up and worked in conventional agriculture throughout her childhood and corporate career in logistics. Ella concisely conveys her extensive environmental and basic sciences knowledge alongside her passion for sustainable and regenerative farming and waste management.
